[Griffolk Ethyn the Dragon-Shaman, Corhim Sparkledingle the Gnome Wizard and Fangorino the Barbarian have arrived on Yag Island and soon became friends with my family and other friends that were there setting up defences by the Barrow. In addition a being that looks and acts like Fenrir has arrived. In reality it is a simulacrum created by the Vicar of Ghaunadaur.]
DAY 581 (4th Marpenoth) (October) cont ...
Sparkledingle went to see his cousin Felia at her shop and handed over his six dodgy potions he had stolen from the Dementor.
This was how they were labeled:
1. 'Arrows?' magic comes off it
2. CLW
3. PFE
4. Foxy-loxy
5. ?
6. ?
She thanked him. She was a budding potion maker, of sorts, so he hoped she would appreciate the gift (of stolen goods!).
Lavinia had asked Sparkledingle, Fang and "Fenrir" to go to Sasserine and report to the Vanderboren Manor to be given a task in the city.
The ship the Blue Nixie was to take them. It was a 250 mile journey and depending on the wind would take about three days.
The ship was ready so they set off. After only a few hours of sailing the ship was attacked by 18 merfolk warlocks (merlocks?). They seemed crazed, and suicidal in their attack, shooting away with Eldritch Blasts as they surfaced amongst the waves.
Sparkledingle's first instinct was to turn invisible and hide. Fang's first instinct was to jump into the water so he could slice the merfolk's heads off. He sunk like a stone and it took him a while to swim back up to the surface.
Meanwhile Fenrir blasted back, single shots, but much stronger than the merfolk attacks.
Sparkledingle regained his composure and flew out above the battle so he could go and touch Fang and cast Haste on him, and then Enlarge him. A giant Fang was a good target for the warlocks though and he was shot up quite badly. He swam to the ship and clambered onboard.
The sailors on the ship were helping too, able to fire off crossbows, aided by the fact that Fang was acting as an Eldritch Blast magnet. One sailor even killed two of them. The rest were finished off by Fenrir's precision shots.
Fang was bleeding out on the deck though, unconscious and rather forgotten about. It turned out that not one person onboard the ship had any healing skill and there were no healing potions to be had at all amongst the adventurers.
Sparkledingle rushed into the cabins and searched the sailor's sea chests until he luckily found a potion of Cure Light Wounds. The fortunate Fang was then brought back from the brink of death.
DAY 582 (5th Marpenoth) (October)
Fair weather. Good progress towards Sasserine.
DAY 583 (6th Marpenoth) (October)
Fair weather. Good progress towards Sasserine.
DAY 584 (7th Marpenoth) (October)
Fair weather. Today they arrived in Sasserine.
Sasserine is a home away from home for me, and where my wife, Lavinia, is from, but none of the three heroes had ever been here before.
The first thing they did was find the nearest magical supply shop and buy some potions of Cure Light Wounds to fill that gap in their strategy.
They then decided to postpone visiting the Vanderboren Manor and go looking for a replacement for Sylvia.
Sylvia, my cousin, was growing bored of guarding a barrow and sleeping rough and wanted to go back to Waterdeep as her cats would be missing her. She had requested them to go find a replacement for her, someone decent who wouldn't mind living on an island for a bit.
After much asking about they found a Shrine to Silvanus, but there was only a lowly adept there. Next they tried the Shrine to Ilmater, but again there was only an adept there.
Eventually they ended up at the Shrine to Shaundakul where they met a gnomish cleric called Ortle Wiseman. He seemed a little rough around the edges, but did say;
'A pirate island in the middle of nowhere? Sounds ideal, I gotsta leave town pretty sharpish anyways, knows whats I means?'
Shaundakul, honestly. What were they thinking?
Finally they arrived at the Vanderboren Manor. They were met at the door by Liris the Factor, who managed the house. When it came to introductions Sparkledingle said:
'You may all know me as Corhim Sparkledingle, but in reality my name is Sprinkley! Yes Sprinkley Sparkledingle! You see, it was for some very complicated reasons that I will now tell you that ... hey come back!'
Good food and drink was prepared for them, to welcome them to the Manor. Liris filled them in with the details of their mission.
'It's the Lotus Dragons. They are a pretty nasty bunch of thieves and murderers. They have stolen a shipment of supplies from us. Simply, we want them back. Once the shipment is secured I will arrange its transport onto the Blue Nixie. Don't come back to the Manor once it is done. We don't need the Lotus Dragons knowing it was us.'
Sparkledingle looked up from his dinner. He wasn't drinking wine, so perhaps he was just high on life.
'Sprinkley! Did anyone hear me? From now on you must all refer to me as Sprinkledingle! I mean, Dinkle Dinglesprinkley! Do'h, I mean Sprinkle Sparkleydingle! Do'h I mean Sparkle Dinklesprinkle... no wait, that's not it... Sprindle...spronkle...dinkeydonkey...'
I should imagine this went on for some time. Pushing the joke well beyond where it was at first funny is something that gnomes love to do!
