[And now back to my own adventures on Yacg'harr Island. where I was putting the band back together.]

DAY 535 (20th Eleasis) (August)

Sylvia and Jiggles arrived on the island in the wee small hours of the morning. I assume they teleported in somehow, but I didn't ask.

Jiggles was happy to be part of the action again, but I think Sylvia, who is an incredibly lazy young lady, was looking forward to some 'me time' and as she currently had enough gold to last her for years was in no great need of more.

Still, us Laviuses stick together, and it was good to see her. She is a heavy-weight dungeon delving undead-ass-kicking cleric now, and very handy to have about.

In the morning we sent Jiggles into 'Pirate Town' - just to keep her ear to the ground. She mainly sat in the pub drinking small beer. Later she informed us that at some point we could expect a scouting party to be sent to see what was going on.

Sylvia was given the task of casting a Hallow spell (with Dimensional Anchor) inside the barrow. This would take her 24 hours.

With Jonathan flying patrols around the island and keeping an eye open for pirate ships I was starting to feel a little safer. A reckoning was surely coming with the pirates, but as each day passed we became better equipped to deal with it.

Myself and Dak decided to do some more experimenting with the portal. Here is a summary of our findings:

Branch 1 (Green Branch) 5 symbols
- House        - Lead to a giant ruined castle/mansion in the jungle
- Chest        - all the loots!
- Tree        - Black Jungle maybe?
- Cave         - Coast to east somewhere. Cave with a rotten boat in it.
- Boat        - Coast to east - we followed the coast down to Sammarash and had lunch there

Branch 2 (Yellow Branch) 5 symbols
1 - satyr scout did not return

Branch 3 (Orange Branch) 5 symbols
1  - Snowflake - Cold! - mountains, tundra

Branch 4 (Red Branch)    6 symbols
1 Cloud - satyr scout did not return
2 Rock - rock and earth. Bad Air. Was a bit of a struggle to get back again.
3 Flame -
4 Water -
5 Tree -
6 Swirl -

Branch 5 (Violet Branch) 17 symbols
1 - ? satyr did not return

So, the mansion we found would have been lovely at some point, but it was  weather damaged and in a state of disrepair. It was structurally sound though. It would cost a fortune to get it back to its former glory.

We spent some time wandering from room to room, taking it all in, then went up onto the battlements. We could see the sea and judging by the temperature of the air and the position of the sun I think we were still somewhere in Chult.

After a while though I had run out of Satyrs to send through the portals to scout them. It would be better to get some other spells on the go too to pinpoint more accurately where we were landing each time.

After our evening meal a watch was set and we settled down into our bedrolls. Everyone had a smile on their face, and no wonder, considering the amount of treasure we had found and the power that we now had at our disposal.

DAY 536 (21th Eleasis) (August)

I was woken at about half six in the morning, when Irritator, who was on watch,  started shouting that a portal was opening.

Dak rushed to remove the key from the first pillar, but it was locked in. A squat, blubbery humanoid, with a slack mouth full of fangs stepped through the portal. It went to attack us, but we quickly dealt with it, and Irritator blew it to bits with a volley of Magic Missiles.

We struggled to get the key out, but another creature came through the portal. This time is was a gaunt humanoid with one large horn and a big mouth. It smelled terrible.

It somehow plunged the barrow into darkness, but Dak drew out the Emberblade and we quickly located it again. Startled, it seemed to teleport, or phase, or something, and was gone!

We waited nervously for ten minutes until the portal closed again. Dak tried to get the key out, but his fat-fingered half-orc hands couldn't quite get a good enough grip.

In the end it was Jiggles's nimble, but strong, fingers that got it out.

So lesson learned! Take the key out once you are done 'portaling' for the day.
